'Jindai' features dark green foliage on stiff upright branches giving it a coarse texture. When young 'Jindai' will grow like a telephone pole with arms becoming loosely conical with age. 'Jindai' will grow equally well in sun or shade. This plant is sometimes called 'Jindai sugi' but according to recently accepted rules for plant names the sugi has been dropped because it means Cryptomeria and thus is redundant.
